Think Snow! 2010

Think Snow! Family Winter Fun in North Hastings  February 12th - 14th, 2010 saw some amazing family fun in Bancroft and the surrounding areas.  Our second annual Think Snow! event was bigger and better for 2010........

On Friday, the Soup of the Day Contest  saw 22 entries of homemade soup from several not for profit  organizations and community groups in support of this amazing United Way fund raiser.

Friday afternoon the Pioneer Gathering folks arrived and set up camp.  This group braved the elements, sleeping and cooking outdoors all weekend.  The camp included Elizabeth Chapman, Toy and Game maker, Charles Chapman, long rifleman, Peter Boudreau, maps and fur trading, Kathryn Michaud, Frontier Woman and Camp Matron, Bob Miller, Ranger and Mike Proctor, Fur Trader.

Friday night the Bancroft Fish and Game club hosted the York River Music Society and the "Snow Ball Winter Dance".  Many people danced the night away to fine live music.

Saturday opened with a scrumptious pancake breakfast provided by the Seniors 580 Club.  The Sled Dog Races departed at 11:00 am from Millennium Park and headed to the finish line at the Dungannon Recreation Centre.

At Dungannon, the 2nd Annual Chili Cook-off & John Tait Memorial Pie Baking Contest  took place.  The grand prize chili was awarded to Ken Wishlow of the Bancroft Bed & Breakfast.  Winning pie was very close, ultimately won by Robin Tait and her amazing Drumstick Delight, part of the Good & Delicious food group (otherwise known as Junk Food!).  Celebrity judges included Drew Hosick of Moose FM, Dan Schell from  Bancroft This Week and Heather Johns, Assante Wealth Management.  Spectators waiting for the arrival of the Sled Dogs could enjoy horse drawn sleigh rides, a bonfire and hot apple cider, an indoor children's fun fair, bake sale and hot chocolate.  Children also took part in the Kid and Mutt races on the ball diamond and skating at the outdoor rink.

Chocolate Fantasy Evening was organized by Community Care North Hastings and featured the exquisite creations of John Schneeberger, chef and chocolatier. Over 100 people attended this one of a kind event, sampling fine offerings and bidding on chocolate treats to take home.  Light jazz was provided by Chris Dickson, Guitar and Ken MacPherson, drums.

Comedian Lorne Elliot at the Bancroft Village Playhouse - This hilarious evening of comedy was provided by Performing Arts Bancroft.  Over 100 people attended and were entertained by nearly 2 solid hours of the tall tales and musical musings of Lorne Elliott.  A welcome evening of laughter!

Ice Sculpting Demonstration and Snow Sculpture competition - Renowned artists Kevin Lockau and Andrew Edgar spent over 5 hours creating a beautiful ice sculpture on the bandshell at Millennium park on Sunday.  The final piece was unique, photos are available in the photo gallery.  The snow sculpture contest was awarded to Wendy Dillabough and her family, who all welcomed free passes to the Community Supper as their prize.  Their Olympic Rings were great!
