Lake St. Peter Provincial Park
Open May 14 - October 11, 2004
Lake St. Peter Park is designated a recreation park,
just off Highway 127, 45 kilometres north of Bancroft.
This park is 431 hectares with comfortable campsites,
excellent fishing, swimming, boating and hiking trails.
Camping
The park has 65 attractive, secluded campsites, 45 of
them large enough to accommodate trailers. Most sites
are shaded and boast views of the lake. There are no electrical
outlets at any of the sites, but all have fireplaces and
picnic tables. Other amenities include a comfort station
with flush toilets, showers and laundry facilities, a
wood yard, a trailer sanitary station and a boat launch.
Swimming
The Park's large sandy beach and warm clear water make
swimming and sunbathing favorite activities. There are
no lifeguards so parents are responsible for the safety
of their children.
Fishing
Both trout and bass inhabit Lake St Peter. It is possible
to catch fish from the park shoreline and docks, but better
results are likely from a boat.
Boating
There are no restrictions on the type of craft used on
Lake St. Peter, and motor
boating is popular. However, canoeing and sailing are
also enjoyable activities on this beautiful lake.
Hiking
Two well-marked trails offer visitors the opportunity
to explore the outdoors on foot. Both trails begin and
end close to the park office and parking lots. Lookout
Trail, the shorter one, goes through rugged terrain and,
as its name implies, has a spectacular lookout over the
lake. Shanty Trail, an easy walk of about 3.5 kilometres,
takes its name from an abandoned cabin built by hand many
years ago.
