Mineral Capital Mineral Museum

The Mineral Museum in "The Old Station" houses a large mineral display of 300 different local minerals which reflects the unique geology of the region.
A replica mining scene is also on display in the museum.
Collections belonging to individuals, universities and museums the world over contain Bancroft area minerals, and this museum highlights the reasons why. Featured are a wide variety of minerals from the region, which illustrate the complex geological history of the area.

Specimens are on display from locations such as:

Faraday/Madawaska Mine:
calcite, quartz, selenite, ilmenite, magnetite and uranophane

Tory Hill area:
apatite, titanite, hornblende, feldspar, mica

Quadville area:
rose quartz, beryl, hornblende, amazonite, corundum, betafite, garnet, diopside, sodalite to name a few.
A mining diorama provides a picture as to what mining techniques were in the fifties and sixties.

Hours:
The museum is open seven days a week in the summer, and Monday to Saturday during the fall, winter and spring

July and August open 7 days a week, 9 am to 6 pm
Last week of June to Labour Day
Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm,
Saturday 10 am to 4 pm
Admission is by donation
